Ownership-cost calculator
Automatic Litter Box Ownership Cost Calculator
Compare two litter robots on the same 1-, 3- and 5-year basis. Enter your own checkout and consumable prices so the result does not depend on stale promotions.

What this calculator includes
Total cost = device price + monthly liners/bags × 12 + annual filters + annual maintenance. The calculator applies the same assumptions over one, three and five years so a lower purchase price is not automatically treated as the lower-cost choice.
Use the actual price available to you today, not an old MSRP. For bags and filters, estimate what you expect to consume based on the manufacturer’s replacement guidance and your household. If a product uses proprietary liners, odor-control packs or other recurring supplies, include those in the relevant field.
How to interpret the result
The lower five-year total can matter, but ownership cost is only one part of the decision. Entry height, usable interior space, waste-bin capacity, cleaning access and whether your cat will comfortably use the machine can outweigh a modest cost difference. A cheaper robot that does not fit the cat or household routine is not actually cheaper in practice.
For multi-cat homes, pay particular attention to consumable frequency and waste-bin cadence. Those variables can compound much faster than the purchase-price difference. If you expect a motor, liner system or other part to need periodic replacement, add a realistic annual allowance under “other maintenance.”
What is intentionally excluded
Ordinary cat litter is excluded because most households would buy litter with or without an automatic box. If one machine clearly changes how much litter you use, add only that incremental difference under “other maintenance.” Electricity is also omitted because the operating draw of these devices is generally small relative to hardware and consumables, and published usage assumptions are not always comparable.
This is a planning tool, not a claim about future repair frequency. Prices, included supplies, warranty terms and consumable schedules can change, so update the inputs whenever you compare current offers.
