Large-cat fit: open geometry can matter more than a few pounds
Whisker currently publishes a 3–25 lb range for Litter-Robot 4 and says the globe is suitable for large domestic cats, including breeds such as Maine Coons. Its entry is 15.75 inches square and the internal globe is larger than the opening. That can work well for many big cats, but body length, turning style and willingness to enter a globe still matter.
Neakasa publishes a wider 2.2-to-approximately-33 lb range for M1 Plus. More important than the number is the open-top geometry: a cat does not have to pass through a circular doorway and remain inside an enclosed globe while eliminating. For a long-bodied or enclosure-averse cat, that may be the decisive difference.
Multi-cat homes: capacity is not the whole problem
Whisker says one Litter-Robot 4 supports up to four cats. Neakasa publishes an 11.23 L waste bin and markets extended intervals between emptying. Those claims are useful, but neither tells you how quickly your particular household will fill the waste system. Stool volume, litter type and number of daily visits change the cadence.
For multi-cat homes, the safer planning assumption is that an automatic box reduces scooping but does not eliminate the need for capacity monitoring or a backup box during acclimation, maintenance or outages.

Neakasa's current warranty policy extends selected products including M1 Plus to two years when purchased on or after January 1, 2026.
